Recording The World's Best Live Music

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

He's worked in the recording studio of Austin City Limits since the show started back in the 1970s but here we record David Hough, Audio Director, talking about his experiences. Why do this? We're getting around and meeting people who do different jobs. Thank you to Scott Carroll of AMD for connecting us.

Hey, why not record your own video response on Youtube - and insert the url here.

I thought the interview was perfectly fine. A quick behind the scene look at the man behind the curtain.

subject gives more to the post and it would make it easier to find post that relate to what you are looking for and the comments about what you are looking for.

Robert thanks for this web gem im i will be Posting about it tonight. im glad you have a respect for the behind the scenes guy. unless your working at the level that he is at you struggle in this side of the music business. I know Digital And I was Taught on Anolog so i was able to follow the interview very well and it told me one thing of my knowledge. That im going to have to move out of new orleans due to a lack of work for audio engineers out here.

My long lost twin is in Austin!

Outstanding interview one of the best so far. Sure like the clarity of this video. Keep up the great work.

Here's one anonymous viewer to say excellent interview. One of your best yet. Keep up the good work, these videos show signs of consistent improvement!

Oh anonymous (slap your parents by the way for giving you such an awful name) you silly person you. Milk comes from cows not the farmer. However if Robert can interview a farmer and get milk from him, then I think that is worth watching.

Next, maybe you could go to a dairy farm and interview a farmer to show us where milk comes from!

the video is stuck.. is it just me?

Nice story! His last name is spelled "Hough," though.

HAHAHA.....When I first glanced at the screen shot, I thought, "LARRY DAVID? SWEET!" Looking forward to watching this. I'm a huge Austin City Limits fan.

I watched the video again this evening and it was fine. I had already watched a bunch of video prior, so maybe Flash was tired. :?)

Just drifted on in and wanted to say thanks for the interview... HUGE Austin City Limits fan here...
Interesting stuff.

Yes! I'm not the only one who thought RS was interviewing Larry David. He should be his stunt double in Curb Your Enthusiasm!

I remember watching Austin City Limits all my life. My first impression, after blowing up to full screen, was good lord Peter Buck and Mike Mills look old. Then I looked in the mirror.

What many of you may not realize is that Austin City Limits really helped put "the people's republic of Austin" on the map as the happening place for music in the 70s and 80s, which led to things like SXSW for music first and then all the digital, interactive, online, and computer stuff that attracts guys like Robert and his buddy from AMD.

I'd love to hear David Huff's anecdotes and memories about home grown guys and gals like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Edie Brickell before they made it big.

Jeff Henderson's comment nailed it - you never knew how big the audience was, but you knew the ambiance was intimate and up close. Incidentally, the backdrop is the Austin skyline, with the UT Tower and Capitol dome, so you almost think they are performing outside.

Good interview, man.

Weird, it looks good here, but I'll have to test it out on more machines. I'll get Rocky to answer the bitrate and framerate questions. The problem is we upload our video to Twistage and I believe they reencode it anyway, so not sure we even know.
